I just get the will to do it. I don’t plan a photograph in advance… I work by impulse. No philosophy. No ideas. Not by the head but by the eyes. Eventually inspiration comes-instinct is the same as inspiration, and eventually it comes.Manuel Alvarez Bravo
I have found Bravo to be the hardest to research. The reason being that the images online are very limited when going through a google search. Many of those that I did find, personally do not attract my attention as they seem to be ‘posed’ portraits of people in the streets or outside homes and quite a lot of naked people enjoying the sun which reminded me of Gauguin’s Tahitian paintings.
There are a few in ‘dress’ but again very staged. So I went through the book I had purchased and the review I have written is here, to see if I could find any different images.
When reading more of the books contents I found out that the ‘nude’ photographs were models that worked with Bravo, so in fact they do not even count in the research that I am doing.
What I do find interesting is the fact that his images are now a historical reference to times gone past, a street photography series of ‘his’ Mexico.
